Module 1.3 - Data Quality - Assessment


Below are the steps I used to complete the assessment of the road network quality.

·         Used Clip Layer tool to isolate only roads within the Grid for both the Centerlines shapefile and the     TIGER Roads shapefile.

·         Used the Intersect tool to clip the Centerlines and TIGER clipped shapefiles to the Grid.

·         Used Tabulate Intersection tool to calculate the length of each segment of both shapefiles that occurred   in each grid  section.

        I then exported the attribute tables to Excel to complete all calculations and readded the excel sheet back into my map to create the choropleth.

This module introduced isarithmic mapping using the average precipitation of the state of Washington over a 30 year period from 1981 - 2010. Isarithmic maps are used to show smooth, continuous phenomena across an area using varying symbology methods. The data was prepared using the PRISM (Parameter-elevation Relationships on Independent Slopes Model)  interpolation method.  Hypsometric tinting and contours were used to show the varying elevation across the state. I discovered I enjoyed working with this type of mapping more than any others we have created so far.

A Little Bit About Me

Our family on our girls' first cave tour in Eureka Springs, AR - March 2022 My name is Jessica Williamson. I am from Louisiana and graduated with my BS in Wildlife and Fisheries with a concentration in Wetland Science and a minor in Oceanography and Coastal Studies from LSU in 2007. Currently I am a fisheries biologist for the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. I work with the commercial fishing industry and seafood dealers who buy and sell Louisiana seafood. While I do enjoy my current job I have realized I would like to pursue a career in the field of GIS. I have a little previous background in GIS and enjoyed the experience I have had so far. My overall goal upon obtaining my GIS certification is to try to find a job in an area of coastal restoration/habitat management. As you can see in my photo, I have two young daughters and would love to find a job I can work remotely so I can be there for them more than I am while working in an office setting. Module 2.2 - Interpolation

  I had a very difficult time with this module. Not so much with the actual analysis but I did struggle greatly focusing on the questions. I did not have much trouble performing the exercises but was not able to appropriately answer many of the deliverables.
