Module 1.2 - Standards

This image shows the city streets and the test points I selected using the provided data.

Upon completion of determining test and reference points using the provided data for the city of  Albuquerque, NM, StreetMap USA, and the DOQQs, I added the XY coordinates to attribute tables for each set of points. Then I exported the tables in Excel and used the provided spreadsheet to calculate the horizontal accuracy.

For the City Street data:

Using the National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy, the data set tested 19.78 feet horizontal accuracy at 95% confidence level.

    For the StreetMap USA data:

Using the National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy, the data set tested 147.08 feet horizontal accuracy at 95% confidence level.

Module 3 - Cartographic Design

The goal of this module was to create a map showing the public schools in Ward 7 of Washington D.C. by using methods that comply with Gestalt's Principles. I created this map using ArcGIS Pro. I tried to keep the focus of the map on Ward 7 and specifically, on the schools in that area. I labeled each school using an icon of differing sizes to denote the education level of each school, (i.e. elementary, middle, high schools). When choosing the colors of the map I tried to keep the important features in brighter colors while not overpowering the map. While designing the layout I tried to use all available space to include the inset map and other map elements without cluttering the map frame and keeping the focus on the important features and information.
