Module 5 - Damage Assessment
On October 29, 2012 Hurricane Sandy made landfall near Atlantic City, NJ as a Category 1 storm. Using data provided, I created the map above to show the track and details of the storm as it progressed north through the Atlantic Ocean and made landfall in the Northeastern United States. Below is my assessment of the damages in the Ocean County study area. I found the most difficulty determining between minor damages or properties that appeared to be affected but not damaged. I think those types of assessments would be best done on the ground. The table below shows the number of cases of each structural damage category found within the 100m, 200m, and 300m buffer from the coastline.
