Module 1 - Visual Interpretation



This first module of GIS 4035 walked through feature identification using color, texture, shape/size, patterns, shadows, and association of aerial images. Once I remembered how to accomplish the various tasks in ArcGIS Pro I was surprised at how easy it was to pick out the features. I look forward to learning more in this class and becoming more proficient using aerial photography.

Our family on our girls' first cave tour in Eureka Springs, AR - March 2022 My name is Jessica Williamson. I am from Louisiana and graduated with my BS in Wildlife and Fisheries with a concentration in Wetland Science and a minor in Oceanography and Coastal Studies from LSU in 2007. Currently I am a fisheries biologist for the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. I work with the commercial fishing industry and seafood dealers who buy and sell Louisiana seafood. While I do enjoy my current job I have realized I would like to pursue a career in the field of GIS. I have a little previous background in GIS and enjoyed the experience I have had so far. Module 3 - Cartographic Design

The goal of this module was to create a map showing the public schools in Ward 7 of Washington D.C. by using methods that comply with Gestalt's Principles. I created this map using ArcGIS Pro. I tried to keep the focus of the map on Ward 7 and specifically, on the schools in that area. I labeled each school using an icon of differing sizes to denote the education level of each school, (i.e. elementary, middle, high schools). When choosing the colors of the map I tried to keep the important features in brighter colors while not overpowering the map. While designing the layout I tried to use all available space to include the inset map and other map elements without cluttering the map frame and keeping the focus on the important features and information.
