Module 5 - Supervised and Unsupervised Classification

Image
This has been my most frustrating module so far. As I worked through the lab exercises I thought I had a good grasp on the methods and was please with the outcome of the first mapping activity of this module. However, once I moved over to working in ArcGIS Pro things became a bit more difficult and I am not happy with the outcome. The first thing I notice that went wrong with my final map is the "Roads" pixels were not well defined, therefore the color designated for Roads appears far more than it should have. Overall, this was a disappointing output for me.

Module 4 - Spatial Enhancement

This lab exercise was very interesting and taught me a lot about how to use various methods to identify features in an image. Using the histograms to locate pixel values and isolate features was easier than trying to find the best band combination. I'm still not sure I did that step correctly. Working in ERDAS is becoming easier as the lab progress.

Module 3 - Intro to ERDAS

First of all, it would be a lie if I said ERDAS did not intimidate me greatly when I first opened the program for this lab. I had some experience going into ArcGIS Pro so didn't feel as completely overwhelmed. However, after starting this lab assignment I can see that I will get used to and enjoy utilizing all the tools available in ERDAS. I ran into a few snags along the way that were caused by my inadvertently skipping a step here and there but I was able to correct the problem and move along. I did struggle with getting the land class areas included in the legend. I created something to submit but I'm sure there is a better way to include that information.

Module 2 - Land Use/Land Cover and Groundtruthing

This lab assignment has definitely been the hardest to date for me. I found myself alternating between trying to be as accurate as possible while digitizing to covering large sections then second guessing my placements. After seeing the final output I definitely see where I would do things differently and improve my overall mapping. I did get an 80% accuracy when "truthing" my randomly sampled locations.
