Module 4 - Vector Analysis

Image
I really enjoyed this lab assignment this week. I liked using the data for the DeSoto National Forest to learn how to buffer features and to isolate particular data to be able to visualize the possible campsites. I like choosing the symbology for my maps. I try to put thought into my choices and pick colors that will stand out and truly the present the data in an understandable manner. Overall, this weeks lab taught me a lot about using the attribute tables and how to modify them. I also learned how to use various tools to obtain similar results.

Module 3 - Field Data Collection and Projections

Module 3 Lab introduced using various projections to show data. This is definitely a topic I will be revisiting as I found myself in a bit of confusion several times throughout this exercise. I understand the importance of knowing the projection used when creating a map and will be reading over all the notes again to gain a better understanding of this aspect of GIS. I did really enjoy the field data collection part of this module. GIS data collection has already come so far since my fieldwork days!

Module 2 presented a lot of information and mapping techniques. As well as a few personal challenges. I really enjoyed learning each aspect and although I felt rather slow with it all I hope that things will speed up for me as I become more comfortable and familiar with the program and methods.
